When Kanda had locked the door, he and Allen set off on their way. They had to take a bus into the town centre and then a train to reach their destination. Kanda was paying for it all because Allen didn’t have any money with him. The younger male felt bad about having to use Kanda’s money but he promised to pay him back when he could.
After a forty five minute bus ride into the town centre, the boys walked toward the train station, freezing and quite tired. Kanda put his arm around Allen’s shoulder and pulled him in close in hope of keeping him warm. Allen just blushed and carried on walking. Allen laughed a little, catching Kanda’s attention.
“What’s so funny?” he asked the shorter boy.
“Nothing,” Allen replied, “it’s just that I can see my breath because it’s so cold…”
Kanda smirked at Allen’s childish behaviour and thought it was cute.
They reached the station after a short while and Kanda paid for the tickets while Allen went to buy something to drink. He came back with two disposable cups of tea and smiled. The two sat and drank their tea while they waited for the train to arrive. They had to sit through two announcements saying the train would be “a little late”. In actuality, the train arrived half an hour late. Kanda got on first and chose a seat. Allen followed him and sat in the seat next to Kanda. Allen watched Kanda for the whole trip, occasionally having to turn around after nearly being spotted staring.
When they reached their stop, Kanda grabbed Allen’s hand and lead him off the train. Allen just had to follow Kanda as he still had no idea where Kanda was taking him. He was a little scared.
“Kanda…?” Allen started.
“Shush.” Kanda silenced him. “Close your eyes.”
“What?” Allen stopped walking.
“Just do it.”
Kanda glared at Allen until he closed his eyes and let Kanda drag him along.
Allen walked blindly for a few minutes and he nearly tripped a couple of times but Kanda never let go of his hand. Allen felt safe with Kanda. He felt secure.
Kanda stopped walking, causing Allen to crash into him.
“Hn!” Allen stumbled backwards and tripped on a rock.
Kanda let go of Allen’s hand and stepped forward to catch him and bring Allen into a close hug. The younger male stood completely still, listening to Kanda’s rapid heartbeat.
“Don’t scare me like that.” Kanda’s voice was shaking as though he was scared.
“T-thank you…” Allen managed to stutter out before Kanda broke the hug.
Allen’s eyes had opened when he had been caught so Kanda used his hand to cover them again. Kanda took a few small steps forward and this time, he told Allen when to stop to avoid any other accidents.
“Open your eyes.” Kanda ordered as he removed his hand from Allen’s face.
Allen’s eyes fluttered open to see a vast amount of colour flooding toward him. He blinked a few times, doing his best goldfish impression. In front of the shocked boy stood a large fairground. There were huge rides, games like hook a duck, stalls, a fun house, a ghost train and a hall of mirrors. Allen stood staring for a moment, taking everything in. Kanda didn’t know if Allen was happy or upset. He waved his hand in front of the white-haired male.
“Moyashi? You alive?”
Allen said nothing. He just stood there, staring. Kanda started to worry a little. What if he’d brought back bad memories of something?
Out of the blue, Allen turned around to Kanda and hugged him tightly. Kanda’s eyes widened. He froze. After a few seconds of enjoying Kanda’s warmth, Allen realised Kanda was feeling uncomfortable and let him go.
“S-sorry…” he stuttered, looking at the floor. “I just…”
Kanda pulled Allen close to him again and hugged him. He would probably regret doing it later but for now he didn’t care what anyone thought. Allen wrapped his arms around Kanda’s waist and hugged him back.
“It’s okay.” Kanda stated, stroking Allen’s hair.
“Thank you Kanda.” Allen buried his head in Kanda’s shirt and smiled.
“What for?” asked Kanda.
“This…” Allen wriggled free from Kanda’s grasp and pointed to the fairground.
He smiled again. Kanda smirked at Allen. He couldn’t believe it but he thought the Moyashi was adorable.
“You’re such a kid.” Kanda laughed a little, surprising Allen.
He’d never seen Kanda laugh before.
“Come on, or it’ll be dark before we get to do anything.” Kanda took Allen’s hand and lead him into the fairground.
Entrance was free so that was one thing Allen didn’t have to worry about paying Kanda back for. Allen pointed at nearly everything he thought looked good. He was in heaven. A fairground trip with Kanda was bliss to the younger boy. He was enjoying himself so much that he’d completely forgotten it was a school day.
“Perhaps I should take you out with me more often.” Kanda smiled at Allen.
Allen blushed at how nice Kanda was being to him. A cold wind blew past the two causing Allen to shiver. Kanda pulled him closer again. After spotting the hall of mirrors and having a quick count of the money he had left, Kanda took Allen over to the attraction and paid for both of them to enter.
It was much warmer inside so Allen had stopped shivering. They walked slowly past all of the weirdly shaped mirrors and stopped to look into a few. They soon approached a small room with a red velvet curtain hanging as a door. Kanda lifted to curtain for him and Allen to walk through into the room.
The room they’d just entered was one big mirror. The walls, ceiling and floor were covered in mirrors. It made Allen feel dizzy so he held onto Kanda’s arm to make sure he didn’t fall over. The older male went to sit down in one of the corners. Allen joined him and leaned on his shoulder, yawning.
“Are you tired?” Kanda asked even though the answer was rather obvious.
Allen nodded.
“A little…”
Thoughts began to run through Kanda’s head. He knew they were wrong but he couldn’t get rid of them. He sighed and chose one of the thoughts, knowing they wouldn’t leave his head until he went along with one.
“Moyashi?”
Allen turned to face his classmate.
“Yes?” he asked, innocently.
Kanda took a deep breath.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this but…” he paused and looked down for a moment.
He turned back to Allen and looked into his eyes.
“I think… I love you…”
A violently red blush faded to Allen’s face. He stuttered for a minute or so but eventually pulled himself together.
“Kanda… I…” he swallowed hard and regained composure. “I love you, too.”
Allen smiled at Kanda whose face was flooded with shock.
“But… But…” now it was Kanda’s turn to do a goldfish impression. “I’m horrible to you… aren’t I?”
Allen’s head shook furiously.
“No! Not at all.”
Kanda smirked, finally calm again.
“Then I hope you don’t mind if I do this then…”
“Do what?” Allen asked.
Kanda leaned across to Allen and wrapped his arms around the younger male’s waist. He moved in closer, closed his eyes and pressed his lips against Allen’s. Allen’s eyes grew wide. He blinked twice and closed them after, shyly kissing Kanda back. Allen wrapped his arms around Kanda’s neck and moved to close the small gap between the two. The kiss only lasted a few seconds. Kanda pulled away quickly and covered Allen’s mouth with his hand.
“Shh…” he whispered, staring at the curtain that hid the two in the small room.
Allen was confused but he trusted Kanda so he stayed silent. Kanda’s heartbeat was so loud that Allen could hear it clearly. His heart was beating fast. Was he scared?
“This would be a perfect place for a school trip, don’t you think Reever?” a voice chirped from outside.
It couldn’t be… Mr. Komui Lee? What was he doing in a place like this?
Allen checked his watch. School had only finished half an hour ago.
“How on earth did those two get here so quickly?” Allen thought.
Allen’s eyes widened as he stared through a small gap in the curtains. The two teachers had stopped right by the curtain. If the runaway students made a single noise, they would be found out. Kanda said he’s run away from school many times and they hadn’t asked. If they found them outside of the school, surely it would be a different matter.
Kanda sighed quietly as the teachers began to walk away. They got lucky this time…
